Did You Choose the Right Dog?

Awww…what a cute puppy!

Who doesn’t love a cute puppy? And who hasn’t been tempted by a spur of the moment situation that you can justify to yourself by saying something like, “Well, my kids have been bugging for a dog for a long while, and the fact that I walked down this street today and saw these cute puppies being sold must be a sign that this is the puppy for us.”

Or perhaps you are the sort of human who is attracted by beautiful blue eyes or an unusually patterned coat of fur.

Of course, it’s a good thing that we humans are all different and we all have different likes and preferences.

However, when it comes down to choosing a puppy or dog to share your life, basing your decision on mere aesthetics, a chance meeting or a doleful expression from a pair of cute puppy eyes that could melt the heart of the most stoic tough guy is probably not going to be the best decision of your life.

What can happen when you choose the wrong dog for your energy, age, lifestyle and personality can truly leave you red faced, frustrated, angry and distraught, plus your ego and then your wallet may then be faced with taking a serious hit when you finally realize that you’ve made a bad decision that ends up with you having to explain to your crying children, friends or neighbors why Rover is no longer part of your family.

When we bring a puppy or dog into our lives, we humans often are not thinking about the consequences of choosing a dog that is totally incompatible because we’re so enamored with the idea of adding this new fur friend to our family that thinking forward to what some of the disturbing consequences might actually be is often overlooked.

Sadly, when choosing the wrong dog to share your life with, Rover can quickly lose his charm when within six months or less you may be faced with the hard, cold reality that looks something like this:

“What are you so upset about? I’m a working breed and you left me all alone with nothing to do, so I thought I’d redecorate your furniture.”

I can help you avoid coming home to witness the destruction of your favorite easy chair or worse, when you hire me to produce a Knows to Nose Matchmaking Consultation for you and your family.

Bye for now.
